Dryer Vent Pumpkin Decor

This is one of the most unique upcycle or repurpose crafts I have made. I never would have thought you could turn an old dryer vent pipe into anything other than garbage, but I saw this idea online and was inspired to try it for myself. The result was so adorable! I couldn’t believe how easy this was to make, and how cute it looks when used as a table centerpiece.

I just know this will fit easily with some of my other favorite fall centerpiece ideas. You could also add this to a display including my favorite little rustic twine-wrapped pear decoration. You could even sit this on the mantle above my easy yarn fall decor garland!

Where Can I Find Extra Dryer Vent Pipe?

Depending on whether you have recently added a new dryer to your home or not, you may have a bit extra laying around on hand.

If you don’t already have this in your home to use, you can easily find this in various lengths at a local hardware store, or online. Amazon has dryer vent pipes in a number of sizes you an order to be shipped straight to your front door.

I have also seen pieces at some of our local Habitat for Humanity thrift stores for under $1 per piece.

What is the Best Paint for this Pumpkin Decor?

While I have tried a number of different paints on projects over the years, this is one that really only works when using spray paint.

The time it would take to sponge or brush on any other type of paint would make this a frustrating craft to make. I used a simple orange spray paint, but you could use any fall colored paint you desired.

I love the idea of making a few different sized pumpkins out of dryer vent and then spraying each of them a different shade of tan or orange to create a unique little fake pumpkin display.

You could even add a layer of darker orange as a base. Then spray on lighter colors around edges and the base to make it look a bit more natural.

Dryer vent pipe (aspirator pipe)
Orange spray paint
Green felt or fabric
Small branch or twig

How to Make Pumpkin Decor from Dryer Vent Pipe

I begin all projects by gathering my supplies so they are all in place. This helps me save time, and lets me know if I am missing an important item.

There is nothing more annoying than getting started only to find you are missing a key piece in the middle of a project.

Your first step will be to measure your dryer vent pipe. I used about 1m or a little more than 3 1/4 feet. You can use your scissors or a sharp knife to cut to the desired length.

Once you have the pipe the correct link, you will wrap it into a circle so the ends meet.

Attach the ends to each other using hot glue. Depending upon the type of material your dryer vent is made from, you could also use a stapler to secure the ends together.

After the pipe has been glued together and the glue has dried, you will need to take it outside or to a well-ventilated room, and spray paint in the desired color.

It may take a few coats, but you want to cover completely so you don’t see any of the original colors. Once it is fully sprayed, you will let it completely dry before decorating.

Using your green cloth, you can cut one or two small leaves out to attach to the top of the twig. Place the twig into the middle of the pumpkin, and glue to secure.
