I am in love with this beautiful yarn wrapped Easter egg decoration. Nothing is more fun than watching my kids get excited about hunting eggs on Easter morning. Even the teenager has fun hiding and then sometimes hunting them with the rest of the kids in the family. Whether it’s to find their favorite candies, a few treats, or that elusive golden coin in special eggs, they clamor over each other to find the next egg for their collection.

As I have done over the last few years, I try to find a few new ways to decorate eggs. I love creating fun ones like the whimsical unicorn Easter egg for the kids to hunt. How do I Glue the Yarn in Place?

My go-to craft glue is almost always my trusty hot glue gun. Especially since I discovered the amazing hot glue ropes that keep me working without interruptions to reload. That said, this is one craft where you could use almost any glue to keep the yarn and ribbon in place. If kids are helping you make these, then reach for the Tacky Glue that is safer for them to use, but still holds them in place securely.

Variations of a Decorative Egg for Easter

The joy of decoration like this one is that it isn’t exact. While I love the combination of the stark white yarn against the bright red ribbon, it’s not a must. You can easily use any combination you like for this. Below are a few more of my favorite ideas for making this egg even more fun to create with kids.

• Use different colors of yarn and ribbon for different themes.
• Replace the flowers with beads, rhinestones, or other small embellishments.
• Use a plastic egg that is two pieces, and only add yarn to the individual pieces so it can be opened to add candy inside. Instead of gluing the ribbon, tie it in place only around the center.
• Use jute or twine instead of yarn.

How to Make a Yarn Wrapped Easter Egg

Start by gluing one end of the yarn onto the top of the plastic egg.

In the center of the egg, attach the red ribbon and wrap around then secure with glue.

Using the red ribbon, make a small bow to then attach to the top of the egg.

Add a push pin or small bead to the top of the egg in the center of the bow.

Clip a few of the artificial roses, and glue them together on the center of the egg at the place you have glued the ribbon together around the middle.

Now you can add this egg to an Easter basket, centerpiece, or similar Easter decoration.

Crafter’s Tip:

For an easy option to add the yarn without having to stop every few inches to glue, coat the egg with Mod Podge or a simple sticky glue before you begin. Tacky Glue and Mod Podge both remain sticky long enough that you can easily wrap the egg without having to add more glue before it dries.

Instructions

1. Glue the end of the yarn to the top of your egg and begin wrapping it around the egg;
2. Continue wrapping the yarn gluing in place as you go, until the whole egg is covered;
3. Now, you will wrap the red ribbon around the middle of the egg, and glue in place;
4. Take another length of red ribbon and create a small bow to then glue on top of the egg;
5. Add a bead or pin to the top of the egg in the center of the bow;
6. Finally, glue a few of the artificial flowers to the center of the ribbon wrapped around the middle;
7. Now you have a beautiful rustic styled Easter egg for decorating!
