I’m back with another gorgeous repurposed project. This burlap book page rose wreath is so cute and super easy to make. I love that it uses many craft supplies I already have on hand, and the grapevine wreath form really adds to the rustic appeal. This wreath looks amazing as a decoration whether it is hanging on the door or on a window. Create this wreath for yourself or give it as a gift. What a lovely housewarming gift idea or present.

Book Page Rose Wreath

I’ve been in love with upcycling books for years now. There are so many that just aren’t useful to read anymore and need a new purpose. I find them in the dumpsters, thrown out at book stores and the library. Most of the time, they have already torn apart, missing a large part of the book, or happen to be misprinted and unreadable.

So, what do you do with those pieces of paper from the pages? Turn them into gorgeous flowers, crafts, and even this adorable little wreath! This is so beautiful and I love that it is such an easy project. The addition of the grapevine wreath form really adds to the rustic look I was going for with this project.

Roses are one of my favorite things in the world, so not only do I have this wreath, but tons of other great ways to make roses! Check out these crocheted roses, roses from egg cartons, and this brilliant method of making roses out of plastic spoons!

Can The Flowers Be Stained or Painted?

To gives these roses a different look, you can also create a thin stain using acrylic paint and water. You can add a small amount of color to the roses while still seeing the writing coming through the color. Pink and red might be the first color choice ideas but even yellow, blue, or purple will look lovely too.

Other ideas that could add to the beauty without taking away the rustic appeal would be to paint just the edges of the roses. You could even dust the edges with different colors of glitter, or glue a few shimmery beads along the inside of the flower so it pops with color in the light.

Can I Use Fabric Instead of Burlap for Leaves?

I always keep burlap on hand and find it really lends itself to that rustic look I enjoy. Burlap also really fits the farmhouse style that is so popular in many circles. That said, you can absolutely use any fabric you want!

I’m also a huge fan of upcycling fabrics I have on hand to create something new. Instead of going out and buying fabric just for these flowers, I would grab old sheets or blankets with holes in them, and cut apart for adding the “leaves” to the flowers. You could even use clothing like t-shirts, pants, skirts, or dresses. Any fabric you have on hand that isn’t being used or is too stained or holey for another project would work for these flowers.

Will Craft Paper Work In Place of Old Book Pages?

If you do not have old book pages to use for this rose wreath, you can use craft papers. I love the way the old books look, with the sepia color of the pages and the writing on the pages. When you are using craft papers, you can choose different colors in order to create colorful roses for your wreath.

Many don’t want to take apart an old book for any reason, and I respect that. So, I can definitely recommend using lightweight papers. Copy paper can be printed with quotes from books to keep the theme without destroying a book! Scrapbook paper and even coloring book pages are also great options. Grab a few $1 coloring books from the local dollar tree and put them to use in a project like this!

How to Make an Old Book Page Rose Wreath

Remove pages from an old book. Depending upon the size of each flower, you will need around 3 pages per flower.

\"Tearing

Trim the outside binding edge with glue off of the pages.

\"Trimming

Fold a page in half horizontally.

\"Folding

Then fold the corners over to form a triangle shape.

\"Folding

Now, cut a rounded shape on the closed edge (side) of the paper to form a flower shape.

\"Cutting

Unfold this flower and set it aside.

Repeat this process 3 times.

Now, trim one petal out of the first flower and set it aside.

\"Paper

Then cut two petals out of the second flower and set it aside.

\"Cutting

Cut three petals out of the third flower and set it aside.

Cut the final flower in half. You will only use 1/2 of this per flower made.

You will repeat this process 5-6 times. I used 5 completed flowers on my wreath, but you can add more or less.

\"Paper

Now, you will assemble each flower by folding the pieces and gluing their edges together.

\"Gluing

You will then glue them into each other starting with the largest on the bottom, and working your way to the single petal in the center.

\"Gluing

Repeat this process with all of your flowers.

\"Shaping

Cut and fold a length of burlap into a square.

\"Folding

Trim around the closed edge turning into a leaf shape. You want this to be just a little larger in size than your flower, and will make a 3-4 pronged “leaf”.

\"Cutting

Now, glue the flower into the burlap leaves securing them onto the edges of the paper petals.

\"Gluing

Fluff the flower out to make it look more realistic.

\"Gluing

\"Several

Glue the flowers onto the side of the wreath so you are covering only a portion of the wreath.

\"Gluing

\"Arranging

Now, add artificial flowers to the wreath around the burlap and paper flowers.

Once you are satisfied with how it looks, you can hang this from a wall or door!

Crafter’s Tip

If you don’t have old books on hand, you can pick up vintage book page bundles on Etsy from various sellers. Many of these are older books, but some are simply book pages from any book on hand, including textbooks. This is a great way to support a small business and provide yourself with crafting material.
