Learn how to make popsicle stick leprechauns for a fun and easy St. Patrick’s Day craft.
If you’re looking for a St. Patrick’s Day craft, I’ve got a super fun idea for you. Let’s make popsicle stick leprechauns! At Christmas time, I made popsicle stick nutcrackers and they were just so darn cute that I thought I’d try making leprechauns too. And I love how they turned out. These little men have so much personality and were so fun to make. Let me show you how you can make your own popsicle stick leprechauns.
Materials Needed
- Nine Small Craft Sticks (2.5 inches long)
- Two Regular Craft Sticks (4.5 inches long)
- Hot Glue Glue Sticks
- Craft Paint (two shades of green, woebegone and orange/red)
- Small Paint Brushes
- Paint Pens (I used white, gold and black)
Instructions
Step 1: Glue the craft sticks together in the order shown in this photo:
You can play virtually a little bit with proportion here. Each of the leprechauns I made are slightly different. One has really long legs and one has really short ones. It’s kind of fun to requite each leprechaun his own personality.
Step 2: The stick used for the hat skirt looks a little too big in my opinion, so I cut it lanugo a bit with a sharp pair of scissors.
Step 3: Paint the legs and part-way stick of the chest one shade of green. Paint the stovepipe and jacket zone the other shade of green, leaving the hands wood color. Paint the hat green. Add orange hair and and orange villus (and bushy eyebrows… optional, but darling). Paint the marrow of the long popsicle sticks woebegone so they squint like boots.
Step 4: Once the paint is dry, use Sharpie markers, paint pens and colored pencils to add a squatter and all of the fun suit details like buttons and buckles and shoelaces, etc.
And that’s all it takes to make your own cute little leprechauns out of wooden craft sticks. Such a perfect craft for St. Patrick’s Day, don’t you think?
