DIY Tissue Paper Flowers
Tissue paper flowers in all types are some of my favorite crafts to make. In fact, my first experience making these was many years ago when I was in middle school. For our middle school graduation, we made hundreds of these flowers to decorate the reception room. We used tissue paper in our school colors to match the overall decor. This is one of the first crafts you can teach your kids how to make because it is just super simple. All you need are the pieces of tissue paper or napkins and a few minutes’ time to fold them.
I love the idea of adding some of these paper button flowers to stems alongside these tissue paper flowers. You could also make these tissue paper ball flowers to go along with this fun craft for paper flowers.
What Type of Tissue or Napkins Should I Use?
This really depends upon what you have on hand and your personal preference. I like to pick up multiple colors of tissue paper from the Dollar Tree and keep in my wrapping station at home. So, I can grab some at any time for gifting or crafting. Of course, you can truly reach for the simple paper napkins for this craft. It’s all about using a light and thin paper to create a soft fluttering flower.
If you like the ideas of paper flowers, make this paper flower wreath to go on your wall. I’m also totally in love with these gorgeous paper flowers, and these fun flowers made from a paper roll. So many great ideas out there!
Can I Attach These to Something Other Than Floral Wire?
I love floral wire since it is already green and so readily available. That said, you can pick up some branches, dowels, random sticks, or even wire hangers and shape to turn into a branch for them. I’ve even used plastic spoons! I also love the idea of using old artificial flower stems that may be leftover from other projects. Think outside the box for a stem to use for your paper flowers. A few tweaks and you can make just about anything work to add these paper flowers and create a beautiful bouquet.

How to Make Tissue Paper Flowers
Start by folding tissue paper or napkins in half cutting into strips about 3″ wide and 6″ long.
Take the strip of tissue paper or napkin, and roll it up vertically, then wrap with a rubber band or twist tie so that they are pulled together at the bottom and loose on top.
Now, unfurl the top half of your tissue paper and spread the individual pieces of tissue paper around into a flower shape.
Now, you will glue or tape floral stems in place on the bottom of the flower.
Trim the edges of the paper to make it less uniform and more rounded.
Dab a bit of paint around the edges or center to add color if desired.
Display your flowers in a vase!
I am truly totally obsessed with making my own flowers. If you love them too, then you need to check out my paper flowers from old book pages and these gorgeous decorative paper flowers. Both are great for adding to bouquet or centerpieces. Another centerpiece you might love is this beautiful paper flower ball. Have fun making them and adding to your home decor!
Crafter’s Tip
If you love crafting and use tissue paper frequently, I highly recommend ordering it in cases from Dollar Tree online. Super easy to order, and you get to pick the colors you want and know they are in stock instead of driving all over town looking.
